Farah Khan reveals she was kissed by Deepak Tijori in Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar after the lead actress refused, and says she was never paid despite doing multiple jobs.
Bollywood filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan recently opened up about her early days in the industry, sharing a surprising anecdote from the sets of the 1992 cult classic ‘Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar’. During a visit to singer Shaan’s home for her popular vlog show, Farah reflected on her humble beginnings and the multiple roles she juggled during the film’s production.
A Journey From Assistant Director to On-Screen Performer
Farah revealed that she initially joined the film as an assistant director, but soon found herself stepping in as a choreographer and even a junior background dancer due to the lack of crew and performers on set. In a surprising twist, she also ended up appearing on screen when a particular scene required someone to be kissed on the cheek by actor Deepak Tijori.
“I was actually an assistant director on the film, but then started helping with choreography,” Farah Khan told Shaan. “Every time a background dancer didn’t show up, they pushed me in front of the camera. In one scene, the actress who was supposed to get kissed by Deepak Tijori refused, so they sent me in instead. He kissed me on the cheek!”
“I Was Never Paid”
Despite contributing significantly to the film’s choreography and on-screen moments, Farah admitted she was never paid for her work. “I was doing three jobs — assistant directing, choreographing, and dancing — and still didn’t get a rupee,” she laughed. “But honestly, what that film gave me in return was far more valuable than money.”
Shaan’s Early Struggles Too
Shaan, who also made an appearance in the film as a young extra playing the saxophone, shared his own memory:
“I shot for four days but ended up appearing in just a passing shot. It was during a medley of three songs,” he said.
He also revealed he was paid ₹150 per day, which came as a shock to Farah, who exclaimed, “You got paid?!”
“Makers Were So Broke, They Put Jatin in the Song”
Farah Khan recalled choreographing a track composed by Jatin, part of the famous music duo Jatin-Lalit, and mentioned that the production team was so tight on budget that they made Jatin himself appear in the song.
“It was the song ‘Deewane Hum Pyaar Ke’. The makers were broke — they even pushed Jatin into the frame!”
The nostalgic conversation ended with Farah and Shaan sharing a laugh and dancing to the same track, reminiscing about the film that marked the beginning of both their journeys in the industry.
