71-Year-Old Yvette Ferguson Sets World Record with Fiery Stunt in Final Destination: Bloodlines
Final Destination: Bloodlines is making waves, not just for its chilling plot but for setting a world record with an unforgettable stunt. Directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein revealed that the film has achieved the title of “the oldest person ever set on fire, on camera.” The incredible feat was pulled off by Yvette Ferguson, a 71-year-old stuntwoman who came out of retirement to take on the daring role. Ferguson’s incredible feat takes place in the film’s dramatic opening sequence, where she plays Mrs. Fuller, a woman who is set ablaze inside a swanky, 1960s-style restaurant located atop the towering Skyview Tower. The scene is a classic Final Destination moment—full of tension, chaos, and, of course, flames.
Directors Lipovsky and Stein, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, revealed the magnitude of the scene. “We lit so many different people on fire, including breaking the world record for oldest person on fire with Yvette Ferguson, who did that full body burn in the silver dress,” Lipovsky explained. The directors confirmed that the film’s stunt team has even reached out to Guinness World Records to get official recognition for Ferguson’s achievement, though they are still awaiting a response.
Yvette Ferguson’s story is just as dramatic as her scene. The veteran stuntwoman was pulled from retirement at the age of 71 specifically for this role. As Mrs. Fuller, she portrays one of the many victims in the film’s catastrophic opening sequence. Her character is seen catching fire just as the towering Skyview Tower begins to collapse—a terrifying visual that immediately sets the tone for the film.
Ferguson’s bravery and skill left a lasting impression on the cast and crew. DC’s Stargirl star Brec Bassinger, who plays Iris in the film, was present when the scene was filmed. “Oh, I was on set when they lit her on fire!” Bassinger recalled, describing the atmosphere as electric. “I was within her vicinity. God, it was beautiful. Everyone started clapping…She was so pumped.”
Final Destination: Bloodlines is the sixth installment in the iconic horror franchise known for its elaborate, Rube Goldberg-style death scenes. But directors Lipovsky and Stein wanted to push the limits even further this time, creating one of the most ambitious set pieces in the series. Set in the 1960s, the opening sequence features the Skyview Tower—a fictional, 400-foot-tall restaurant with glass floors and panoramic views. This towering setting becomes the perfect stage for chaos, with Ferguson’s character becoming one of its first victims.
Lipovsky and Stein revealed that the scene was not only one of the most intense but also one of the most complex to film. “The set was incredibly elaborate,” Lipovsky shared. “It was actually probably seven different sets with all the different pieces. The main set, though, was incredibly huge, and we always laughed because it cost more than the first film we made.”
Final Destination: Bloodlines – Fear on the Big Screen
What makes Final Destination: Bloodlines so terrifying is not just the record-breaking stunt but also its ability to tap into everyday fears. As co-director Adam Stein explained, “We’re always looking for things that can happen in your everyday life that we can ruin. So, fear of heights seemed like a really fun thing to play with and start as a foundation.”
And with the film hitting IMAX screens, the sense of vertigo is even more intense. “When you see it on a 60-foot screen, you really feel the vertigo of being 400 feet in the air,” Stein added.
Final Destination: Bloodlines not only keeps the franchise’s signature suspense alive but also pushes the boundaries of what horror can achieve—both in storytelling and in the sheer bravery of its cast. Yvette Ferguson’s record-breaking stunt is proof of that, turning a simple scene into a moment of cinematic history.
