Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences following the composer’s death and remembered his lasting contribution to Gujarati music. He also highlighted Vyas’ role in carrying forward the musical heritage of his father, celebrated composer Avinash Vyas.

Following the news, Prime Minister Modi shared a photograph with the veteran musician on X and recalled the distinctive identity he created within Gujarati music.
The Prime Minister said Vyas continued the rich musical tradition established by his father while developing his own creative style and identity. Modi also extended his condolences to Vyas’ family, friends and admirers.
He described the composer’s death as a loss for Gujarat’s musical community and said his contribution to the Gujarati music scene would continue to be remembered.
Gaurang Vyas and His Gujarati Cinema Journey
Gaurang Vyas began his professional journey in cinema by assisting his father on the Gujarati film Jesal Toral. He later established himself as an independent music director with Lakho Phulani.
Over the years, he composed music for more than 100 films and became a recognised name in Gujarati cinema. His filmography included Ketan Mehta’s Bhavni Bhavai, along with projects such as Maniyaro, Nasibni Balihari, Parki Thapan, Liludi Dharati and Maiyarman Mandu Nathi Lagtu.
His career also gave him the opportunity to work with some of India’s most celebrated playback singers, including Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Kishore Kumar, Manna Dey, Mahendra Kapoor, Suman Kalyanpur, Bhupinder Singh and Prafull Dave.

Songs That Became Part of Gujarati Music
Several compositions associated with Gaurang Vyas became popular among Gujarati music listeners. His work included songs such as Maniyaro Te Halu Halu Thai Re Viyo and Hu Tu Tu Tu, Jami Ramatni Rutu.
His musical journey extended beyond films as well. He released albums based on devotional, traditional and folk music, including Jalaramni Jhumpdi, Bhajan Anmol, Ganga Satina Bhajano, Kahat Kabir, Jalaram Bapanu Halaradu, Prachin Prabhatiyan and Non-Stop Dandiya-Raas.
Awards and Honours
The contribution of Gaurang Vyas to Gujarati cinema and music earned him around 11 state-level Best Music Direction awards during his career.
His work continued to receive recognition even in his later years. In 2022, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel presented him with a Lifetime Achievement Award. He was also honoured by the Gujarat State Music Academy and Gujarat Tourism in 2024 for his contribution to the field of music.
