Gold prices in India continued their upward momentum on December 12, tracking global cues after the US Federal Reserve’s latest policy decision. While gold inched higher during early Friday trade, silver witnessed a slight pullback as investors booked profits following its recent surge.

Why Gold Prices Are Rising

The jump in domestic gold rates comes after the US Federal Reserve cut its benchmark interest rate by 25 basis points, signaling the possibility of another rate reduction next year. This dovish stance pushed the US dollar index down to 98.30, making gold cheaper for international buyers and boosting global demand.

Meanwhile, the Indian rupee remains close to its record low against the US dollar, further lifting gold prices across major Indian cities.

Traders are now eyeing key US economic releases next week — including inflation data and non-farm payroll numbers — which will shape expectations for the Fed’s future rate decisions.

With interest rates now in the 3.50%–3.75% range, analysts say the overall sentiment remains bullish for precious metals. Lower rates reduce the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding assets such as gold, attracting fresh investment into the commodity.
