Started at 44, Directed at 65 — Boman Irani Reveals the Truth About ‘Making It’ in Bollywood
Veteran actor Boman Irani, who made his acting debut at the age of 44 and directed his first film at 65, has spoken out against the notion that Bollywood is responsible for the timing of an actor’s success. In a recent interview with ANI, the actor emphasized that individual responsibility, craft, and hard work play a far greater role than industry circumstances.

“I don’t think Bollywood is responsible for late bloomers or early bloomers,” said Irani. “You make your own luck. Come with dreams, but more importantly, come with craft.”
Boman Irani, known for his performances in 3 Idiots, Munna Bhai MBBS, and Khosla Ka Ghosla, encouraged aspiring actors to focus on training, rehearsing, and continuously improving their skills rather than relying solely on appearance or chance.
He warned that those who enter the industry without honing their abilities are more likely to face disappointment. “If you say, ‘I look beautiful, I’ll get a job’ — you’ll always be heartbroken,” he added.
Boman Irani will next be seen in Detective Sherdil, a Zee5 original film premiering on June 20. The movie stars Diljit Dosanjh, Diana Penty, Banita Sandhu, and Ratna Pathak Shah, with Irani playing a businessman whose murder sparks the central investigation.
He will also appear in Tanvi The Great, directed by Anupam Kher and starring debutant Shubhangi Dutt in the lead role.
