Google I/O 2026 dates revealed by Google CEO Sundar Pichai
Google announced its annual developer conference dates that are going to happen in May.
Date revealed by the mountain view-based tech giant when a visitor solved an online I/O puzzle that has the page of “save the date,” featuring Gemini-powered minigames. The company made the announcement on Tuesday, saying that the event will showcase new updates on its products and platforms. Google is expected to showcase the latest developments in artificial intelligence, software, and new tools for developers.
Google has announced that google I/O 2026 will take place on May 19 and May 20
As in previous years, Google has only announced the dates after users solved an online puzzle hosted on the Google I/O website. This year’s “save the date” page is more entertaining than ever, with a series of minigames powered by the Gemini AI model, demonstrating the extent to which AI is influencing the Google I/O experience.
The Google I/O 2026 teaser features a series of Gemini-powered games to demonstrate AI creativity. “Hole in One” is a mini golf game where an AI caddy helps players, while “Nonogram” offers logic puzzles with infinitely generated boards. “Word Wheel” relies on Gemini 3 to generate perfectly balanced word puzzles. Other games on the Google I/O website include “Super Sonicbot,” a microphone game where sound controls the Android Bot’s movement, and “Stretchy Cat,” which uses Gemini 3 to dynamically adjust difficulty and gameplay so that each game is unique.

As expected, Google’s artificial intelligence will be at the forefront of Google I/O 2026. Google has been quickly growing Gemini’s footprint in its ecosystem, including Search, Chrome, Workspace, and Pixel. At last year’s Google I/O, Google announced significant news like the broader availability of AI Mode in Search and the introduction of Flow, an AI-based filmmaking solution—indicating the magnitude of AI-related announcements that will be made at Google I/O 2026.
The Google I/O 2026 event will probably be live-streamed, allowing interested individuals from across the globe to access the major sessions for free. Although Google has not yet announced the location of the event, Google I/O is expected to take place at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California, just like the previous events. Developers can now register for Google I/O 2026, kicking off what promises to be another historic Google I/O event.
Google I/O 2026: What to expect
We expect the giant tech firm to unveil some updates on its Gemini models and other AI-related products. It may also possibly give its users the first look at its Android XR-powered smart glasses model. In December last year, Google announced that it will be launching its first AI glasses in 2026. Also, the tech firm had previously announced at the I/O 2025 event that its smart glasses are being developed in collaboration with Warby Parker.
The possible unveiling comes at a time when smart glasses are experiencing a huge rise in popularity due to the success of Meta’s Ray-Ban AI glasses and other models. The sales of the Ray-Ban Meta AI glasses have more than tripled in 2025, with over 7 million units sold across the globe, according to the manufacturer of Ray-Ban, EssilorLuxottica.
However, this sudden surge of interest also points to a definitive shift in consumer demand for wearable technology that combines style with cutting-edge AI capabilities such as real-time support, voice commands, and effortless connectivity. Leading tech giants are now pouring significant resources into this area, with the goal of redefining the way people compute daily. If the expected product meets the hype surrounding it, this could be the defining moment for the future of AI-enabled wearables.
