Governor Mangubhai Patel remarked that a new milestone has been achieved on the revered land of Samrat Vikramaditya. On Sunday, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav and Union Minister of State for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs (Independent Charge) Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal inaugurated ‘Samrat Vikramaditya The Heritage’ in Ujjain.
Extending his best wishes on the occasion, Governor Mangubhai Patel also celebrated the commencement of Vikram Samvat 2080. He highlighted Ujjain’s rich legacy as the abode of Lord Mahakal, the land where Kalidas composed his timeless works, and the birthplace of Vikramaditya’s just rule. The revival of the historic Maharajwada building, he noted, is not just a restoration but a testament to preserving India’s glorious past. The heritage site blends tradition with modern amenities, featuring elegantly named rooms, a tourist-friendly environment, and wellness facilities such as Ayurvedic Panchakarma. He commended Chief Minister Dr. Yadav for spearheading this initiative.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav emphasized that under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the state is progressing from heritage conservation to holistic development. He described the inauguration as the dawn of a new era, recalling how Samrat Vikramaditya’s rule in Ujjain mirrored the ideals of Ram Rajya. Stressing the significance of reviving Sanatan cultural traditions, he urged citizens to take pride in their heritage. He recounted Ujjain’s turbulent past, including its devastation by Iltutmish in 1235, followed by its revival under Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and the Scindia rulers, who built grand structures. The government’s current efforts focus on restoring such historic sites that once housed official establishments.
The Chief Minister also mentioned that the ‘Samrat Vikramaditya Heritage Hotel’ has been developed by restoring the Maharajwada building, which previously functioned as a school. This rejuvenated space brings history to life while offering an immersive experience for visitors. Equipped with AI-driven services, the heritage hotel ensures a comfortable stay for tourists and devotees within the Mahakal complex.
Union Minister Shri Meghwal shared an intriguing historical connection, noting the existence of a grand palace in Bhikampur, Rajasthan, reminiscent of the Vikramaditya era—a subject worthy of research. He expressed admiration for Ujjain, the city of the legendary just ruler, and its rich cultural heritage.
