Governor Mangubhai Patel : Prepare an action plan on current demand and future possibilities
- Meeting of Vice Chancellors of Government Universities held at Raj Bhavan
Governor Shri Mangubhai Patel emphasized that universities should aim for high quality in their systems. He highlighted that the National Education Policy grants universities sufficient autonomy to achieve their objectives. He also urged Vice Chancellors to identify development opportunities based on their capabilities, the university’s resources, and the surrounding environment.
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav said that universities should expand beyond their traditional scope in line with the National Education Policy. He called for the creation of an action plan that addresses current demands and future possibilities. He instructed the Higher Education Department officials to establish a task force and ensure the preparation of action plans for all universities within a set timeframe.
Governor Mangubhai Patel and Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav was addressing a meeting of Vice Chancellors from Government Universities at Raj Bhavan on Wednesday. Deputy Chief Minister Shri Rajendra Shukla and Minister of State for Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development (Independent Charge) Shri Lakhan Patel also attended the meeting.
Be sensitive towards student welfare: Governor Shri Patel
Governor Mangubhai Patel urged Vice Chancellors to prioritize student welfare with sensitivity, emphasizing that parents entrust their children to government universities with confidence in the government. He encouraged Vice Chancellors to adopt a parental perspective in addressing student needs and to regularly inspect hostels, mess facilities, sports amenities, and classrooms to ensure their quality and upkeep.
Courses should be prepared for regional employment opportunities
Governor Mangubhai Patel said there was a need for the universities to prioritize courses that enhance regional employment opportunities. In addition to degrees and diplomas, he advocated for the introduction of demand-driven courses tailored to the needs of local industries and businesses. He called for arrangements to study related subjects that align with employment requirements and the availability of human resources. Governor Patel also highlighted the importance of upgrading sports facilities in universities and ensuring maximum student participation in Red Cross activities.
Make a plan to start employment based courses – Chief Minister Dr. Yadav
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav said that all universities should become multi-disciplinary and self-reliant institutions. Along with traditional subjects, special efforts should be made to start courses based on demand and with high employment prospects.
Promote online evaluation work
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav said that universities should streamline their operations in line with the autonomy granted under the National Education Policy. He stressed utilizing modern technology to simplify admissions, provide quality education, conduct timely examinations, and ensure prompt result declarations. Dr. Yadav advocated for the adoption of online evaluation systems for exam answer sheets and proposed completing the formalities for mark sheets and degree distribution at the time of admission. This would enable students to access their documents immediately through the DG locker system.
Government universities will get full support
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that the government is committed to the betterment of higher education institutions. The government is giving full support to the universities. The government has made the universities resource-rich by taking new initiatives to ensure the availability of financial, physical, and human resources. The staff of universities is as important to the government as government servants.
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav said that the universities should become self-reliant by exploiting their resources and exploring new possibilities. He called for a visionary approach to achieve excellence, urging Vice Chancellors to demonstrate their talent and capability in utilizing university resources effectively, adopting self-financing strategies, and exploring Public-Private Partnership (PPP) models. He said it is the Vice Chancellors’ responsibility to address the physical and educational needs of their institutions, with their performance being evaluated accordingly. He also encouraged universities offering traditional, technical, and professional courses to expand their scope beyond their existing fields of work.
Digital valuation is in the interest of students: Higher Education Minister Shri Singh
In the meeting, Higher Education Minister Shri Inder Singh Parmar emphasized on the need for effective, transparent, and fair conduct of examinations. He highlighted that digital valuation benefits students by ensuring timely and accurate evaluation. He urged universities to make better use of modern technology in examination evaluation-related works and explore the potential of a digital valuation system to prepare exam results on time. He also suggested reviewing the system for depositing funds into universities and called for actions to ensure that these funds are used wisely and invested in the development of the institutions.
The meeting was attended by several key officials, including Additional Chief Secretary to the Governor Shri K.C. Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Dr. Rajesh Rajoura, Additional Chief Secretary for Higher Education Shri Anupam Rajan, Principal Secretary for Culture Dr. Sheoshekhar Shukla, Principal Secretary for Public Health and Medical Education Shri Sandeep Yadav, Principal Secretary for Animal Husbandry and Dairy Shri Umakant Umrao, Vice Chancellors of all Government Universities, and senior officers from the concerned departments.
