Tragic Hit-and-Run in Gurgaon Leaves Zepto Delivery Boy Dead
GURGAON — A 20-year-old delivery partner working with Zepto tragically lost his life in a hit-and-run incident on Sunday afternoon near Bakhtawar Chowk, highlighting once again the dangers faced by gig workers navigating city traffic.

The victim, Ankur, hailed from Malda in West Bengal and had been residing with his family in the Jharsa area of Gurgaon. According to his father, Sushil Kumar, Ankur had returned home around 3 PM for lunch and later went out, reportedly stopping for ice cream while seated on his two-wheeler at the side of the road.
Tragedy struck shortly after 4 PM when a car rammed into him from behind, overturning in the process. Ankur was critically injured in the impact and was rushed to the hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries. The driver fled the scene, and local authorities are still working to identify the vehicle and individual responsible.
Ankur had joined Zepto about six months ago to help support his family financially. Before this, he was studying at Dr. Ambedkar College in Nadia, West Bengal. However, due to concerns about his irregular attendance, his family brought him to Gurgaon in hopes of giving him a more structured path.
The incident has sparked concerns among citizens and delivery workers alike, reigniting the conversation around road safety and the often-overlooked risks associated with gig economy jobs. Many have taken to social media to question what protections—if any—are in place for delivery partners working long hours on urban roads, often in high-pressure conditions.
Activists and labor rights groups argue that incidents like this reinforce the urgent need for stronger safety protocols, insurance coverage, and mental and physical health support for gig workers. They are calling on companies like Zepto and others in the quick-commerce space to take greater responsibility for the wellbeing of their delivery staff.
As of now, no arrests have been made. The police have urged eyewitnesses or anyone with CCTV footage in the area to come forward to help with the investigation.
