Gurmeet Singh Khudian hands over appointment letters to two Fisheries Department recruits as Punjab strengthens its workforce and promotes sustainable aquaculture.
Punjab Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian on Tuesday handed over appointment letters to two newly recruited employees of the Fisheries Department, marking another step in the state government’s ongoing effort to strengthen its fisheries workforce.
The newly appointed employees include a Multipurpose Fisheries Skilled Worker and a Fisherman. The appointments are aimed at enhancing the department’s technical and field-level capabilities while improving support services for fish farmers across Punjab.
Fisheries Department Recruitment Drive Continues
The latest appointments are part of the Punjab Government’s continued recruitment drive since 2022. During this period, the Fisheries Department has recruited 55 officials across different cadres.
According to the government, the expansion of the workforce is expected to strengthen the department’s administrative functioning as well as its technical and field operations.

Speaking on the occasion, Gurmeet Singh Khudian congratulated both recruits and said the appointments demonstrate the government’s focus on modernising the Fisheries Department.
He said a stronger workforce would enable the department to provide more effective technical assistance and services to fish farmers in different parts of the state.
Focus on Sustainable Aquaculture
Gurmeet Singh Khudian said the government wants to promote sustainable aquaculture while increasing fish production in Punjab. He added that a better-equipped Fisheries Department can play an important role in strengthening the state’s agricultural economy.
The minister emphasised that trained personnel and stronger field support are essential for helping fish farmers adopt improved practices and make better use of available resources.
Training and Capacity Building to Get Priority
Principal Secretary Rahul Bhandari said the Fisheries Department is also focusing on technical training and capacity building for its workforce.
He said field-level assistance would remain an important part of the department’s approach to improving the livelihoods of fish farmers. The department is also working towards ensuring that aquatic resources are used in a sustainable manner.
Gurmeet Singh Khudian said the government’s recruitment efforts would continue to support the department’s long-term objectives and improve the delivery of fisheries-related services.
The appointments are expected to strengthen the department’s presence at the field level and provide additional support to Punjab’s growing aquaculture sector. Gurmeet Singh Khudian also reiterated the government’s focus on creating a more responsive and technically capable fisheries system.
