Punjab Power Minister Harbajan Singh ETO on Thursday said that the CM Bhagwant Singh Mann along with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will dedicate the Guru Amardas Thermal Power Limited (GATPL), Goindwal to the people of the state on February 11, 2024.
Disclosing this in a press communiqué issued here, the Power Minister said that the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) incorporated GATPL on January 12, 2024 and the acquisition process stands completed as on February 07, 2024, by virtue of which GVK Power (Goindwal Sahib) Limited has become wholly owned subsidiary of GATPL. He said that this thermal power plant has been named as Sri Guru Amardas Thermal Power Plant after the third Sikh Guru. He said “Now, the thermal power plant of GVK Power (Goindwal Sahib) Limited is a property of the Punjab Government”, he added.
The Power Minister said that with this acquisition, the multiple cases filed by GVK Power (Goindwal Sahib) Limited having a liability of about Rs 3000 Crores shall stand extinguished, thus, the people of the state will get relief from sudden tariff shocks. “The reduction in overall tariff unlocks benefits for end-consumers and improvement in the availability of power in the State of Punjab”, said ETO.
He said the talks are going on with the Union Ministry of Power so that coal from Pachhwara Mine shall be made available to run this plant efficiently in an economical way. He said that it would the state in gaining annual savings of about 300 Crores. He said that the Thermal Power Plant has about 1100 acres of land out of which about 700 acres have been utilized for the construction of the project and around 400 acres are still unused.
