Haryana NEWS : The 38th Surajkund International Craft Mela is offering visitors an immersive experience of art, culture, and craftsmanship from both India and abroad. With Odisha and Madhya Pradesh as the theme states, the event also highlights the rich cultural heritage of BIMSTEC nations. The BIMSTEC Pavilion, bustling with activity, has become a major attraction, drawing significant interest from international tourists.
International Pavilion: A Major Highlight
Situated behind the Chaupal area, the International Pavilion stands out as one of the key attractions of this year’s Mela. BIMSTEC member countries—India, Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, Thailand, Ghana, and Afghanistan—have been designated as partner nations. Additionally, around 51 other countries are participating, with over 30 international stalls showcasing their traditional crafts and cultural heritage.
Tunisian Artists Displaying Exquisite Wood Carvings
The Mela is not only a platform for Indian artisans but also a global stage for international craftsmen to exhibit their unique skills. The BIMSTEC Pavilion features a diverse array of stalls, each offering a glimpse into their country’s cultural traditions. One of the most visited stalls, FC-43, features Tunisian artisans showcasing stunning handcrafted pieces made from olive wood.
A Tunisian craftsman shared that they have brought an array of decorative handmade items crafted from olive wood, with each piece taking anywhere from two to four days to complete. Their collection includes swings, coffee and tea sets, chairs, flower pots, clocks, and corner stools. The intricate carvings and fine craftsmanship have captivated visitors, who are not only admiring the artistry but also making purchases.
