Ileana D’Cruz recently celebrated 13 years since her Bollywood debut with the critically acclaimed film Barfi, starring alongside Priyanka Chopra and Ranbir Kapoor. In an interview with NDTV, the actress opened up about how the Anurag Basu directorial came her way at what she calls a “very random time” in her career.

Ileana admitted that she never had a roadmap for her acting journey. “I didn’t plan my career,” she said, revealing that she hadn’t initially intended to enter Bollywood. Her acting experience came without formal training, and she viewed the profession as just a job when she began.
Reflecting on her iconic debut, D’Cruz shared that Barfi wasn’t the story she expected to receive. At the time, she was busy working in the South Indian film industry, and the opportunity to act in a Bollywood film seemed unexpected. Rather than the typical masala entertainer, Barfi offered a niche story—a blend of commercial appeal and artistic depth. Ileana admitted it took her some time to decide whether to accept the role, highlighting how pivotal the project turned out to be for her career.
