Bollywood actress Radhika Madan, known for her transition from television to film, recently shared how the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput inspired her to chase her own dreams in the film industry. In a candid interview with Curly Tales, Madan spoke about how Sushant’s journey from television to Bollywood gave her the confidence to pursue a career in the film industry.
Radhika Madan Reflects on Her Early Career and Sushant Singh Rajput’s Influence on Her Bollywood Dreams
Radhika Madan‘s journey from a popular TV show to starring in major Bollywood films is well-documented, and she has become one of the most celebrated young actresses of her generation. However, her transition wasn’t easy as she admitted that it was the success story of Sushant Singh Rajput that provided the inspiration she needed.
Madan recalled how, in the early days of her career, she would often spot Sushant’s TV set located next to hers. Though they never met, the sight of Sushant’s rise from a television actor to a successful Bollywood star made a lasting impact on her. His roles in films like Kai Po Che! and MS Dhoni: The Untold Story resonated with her, sparking a belief that she too could make the leap from TV to film.
“Us time aisa lagta tha ki Sushant chala gaya toh main bhi jaa sakti hoon,” Radhika Madan shared, reflecting on how she used to think that if Sushant could make it, so could she. Her words revealed the deep influence Sushant’s journey had on her during her formative years in the entertainment industry.
Madan’s first big break came when she was just 17 years old, starring in the popular TV show Meri Aashiqui Tum Se Hi. The show marked the beginning of her acting career, but her journey to landing the role wasn’t an easy one. She recalled how the audition process happened unexpectedly. “I got selected and the auditions were happening in Delhi. I was called by the show’s team overnight and asked to come to Mumbai for a look test,” she said.
To her surprise, she was offered a salary of Rs 1 lakh per month, an amount that left both her and her father in complete shock. Radhika Madan laughed as she recalled her father’s reaction, saying, “Papa said isko kisi ne scam kar diya hai,” reflecting the disbelief her family had when they heard the offer. It was a moment of disbelief mixed with excitement, as it was the beginning of Radhika Madan’s journey into the entertainment world.
Her early experiences in the industry weren’t without challenges, but they were filled with excitement and a growing sense of belief that she could make it big. The immense popularity of Meri Aashiqui Tum Se Hi helped her build a loyal fan base, and soon, she made the transition to films, starting with her role in Angrezi Medium alongside Bollywood stalwarts like Irrfan Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan.
Radhika Madan’s career has continued to flourish since then, with her performances in films like Angrezi Medium and Shiddat, where she received critical acclaim for her versatility and depth as an actress. But it’s clear that her path was inspired, in part, by the legacy of Sushant Singh Rajput, who made the difficult transition from television to films appear seamless.
The loss of Sushant Singh Rajput in 2020 sent shockwaves through the film industry, and many young actors, including Radhika Madan, mourned his untimely departure. However, in Radhika Madan’s case, his memory and journey continue to serve as an inspiration.
