Apple has big aspirations for its production in India. In the next four to five years, the company hopes to increase its production capacity by five times, to $40 billion (about Rs 3.32 lakh crore).

Over the next three years, Apple plans to engage heavily in the Indian labor market, with the goal of hiring over 500,000 workers through its vendors, according to sources familiar with the development news agency PTI. About 150,000 people are currently employed in India by Apple’s vendors and suppliers, with Tata Electronics, which runs two of Apple’s plants, being the biggest employer.

According to a senior government source, Apple has increased recruiting in India significantly. Over the next three years, it is anticipated that the company’s vendors and component suppliers will hire five lakh new workers. When contacted for comment, Apple declined to validate the employment estimates.

With ambitions to increase production capacity five times to an estimated $40 billion (about Rs 3.32 lakh crore) within the next four to five years, the US-based tech behemoth has big production plans in India.

According to statistics from Counterpoint statistics, Apple dominated the Indian market in revenue for the first time in 2023, demonstrating the company’s supremacy in the sector. In the meantime, Samsung continued to lead in volume sales.

According to Counterpoint, Apple’s shipments have also been noteworthy, breaking the 10-million-unit threshold in a single calendar year for the first time.

Additionally, according to statistics from trade intelligence platform The Trade Vision, Apple’s iPhone exports from India saw a stunning double, rising from $6.27 billion in 2022–2023 to $12.1 billion in 2023–2024. This sharp rise indicates Apple’s expanding involvement and financial commitment to the Indian market.
