India was asked to bat after Australian captain Mitchell Marsh won the toss. The innings began slowly, with openers Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma struggling to find momentum. Rohit, coming off a modest score of 8 in the first ODI, started cautiously but eventually steadied the innings.

Early wickets added pressure. Shubman Gill fell for 9, and Virat Kohli, attempting to bounce back from a first-match duck, was dismissed for a second consecutive duck, leaving India in a tricky position.

Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer then formed a match-defining partnership, scoring 73 off 97 balls and 61 off 77 balls, respectively. Their stand revived India’s innings and put the team on course for a competitive total. After their dismissals, wickets fell regularly, but contributions from Axar Patel (44) and late boundaries from Harshit Rana pushed India past 260.
