World No. 1 Jannik Sinner, tennis icon Novak Djokovic, and British No. 1 Jack Draper have all withdrawn from the upcoming ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Toronto, shifting attention to other top contenders in the draw scheduled from July 27 to August 7 at Sobeys Stadium.
Sinner Pulls Out Due to Health Concerns
Reigning 2023 Toronto champion Jannik Sinner announced his withdrawal citing health-related issues.
“I’m truly disappointed to miss the National Bank Open in Toronto, especially since I have such great memories from competing in Canada,” Sinner shared.
Though his 2023 victory in Toronto was a major career highlight, Sinner said after discussions with his team, he chose to prioritize his recovery. Fresh off winning his first Wimbledon title in 2025, where he beat Carlos Alcaraz in the final, Sinner thanked Tournament Director Karl Hale and assured fans he would return to Canada in the future.
Djokovic Out with Groin Injury
Novak Djokovic, a four-time Toronto champion, has withdrawn due to a groin injury. The 38-year-old, who recently lost to Sinner in the Wimbledon semifinals, has had a long and successful history at the National Bank Open.
Draper Withdraws Due to Arm Issue
British top seed Jack Draper has also opted out due to a left arm injury he picked up following Wimbledon.
“It’s not a major issue, but I need to let it heal properly so I’m fit for the rest of the season,” Draper posted on social media.
His absence will also keep him out of the Cincinnati Masters, affecting his lead-up preparation for the US Open beginning August 24.
Strong Field Remains in Toronto
Despite the absence of three big names, the Toronto Masters still promises exciting action. Carlos Alcaraz and former champion Alexander Zverev headline the field, alongside stars like Taylor Fritz, Holger Rune, Lorenzo Musetti, and home favorites Denis Shapovalov and Felix Auger-Aliassime. With top talent still competing, fans can look forward to a thrilling tournament.
