Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan inspected the ₹12.50 crore Kotkapura Rajbah concrete lining work. He ordered officials to solve farmers’ issues on the spot.
In a major push towards modernizing Punjab’s irrigation network, Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan today conducted an on-site inspection of the ongoing concrete lining work at the Kotkapura Rajbah. The project, being executed by the Bhagwant Mann-led government at an estimated cost of ₹12.50 crore, aims to overhaul the local canal system and provide much-needed relief to the farming community.
Ensuring Water Reach to the Tail Ends
During the visit, Kultar Singh Sandhwan emphasized that the primary goal of this multi-crore project is to eliminate water seepage and wastage. By transitioning to concrete lining, the state government intends to ensure that canal water reaches the “tail ends” of the fields, which have historically suffered from water scarcity. Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan noted that this initiative is a testament to the government’s commitment to agrarian reforms and sustainable water management.
Direct Interaction with Local Farmers
The inspection was not limited to technical reviews; Kultar Singh Sandhwan took the time to engage directly with the local farmers present at the site. The farmers raised several critical issues regarding the placement of moghiyas (outlets) and the installation of underground pipelines. Listening to these grievances with high priority, Kultar Singh Sandhwan issued immediate on-the-spot instructions to the irrigation department officials to resolve these technical hurdles without any delay.

Accountability and Quality Control
The Speaker sent a clear message to the contractors and department heads regarding the quality of the construction. Kultar Singh Sandhwan stated:
“The public exchequer’s money must be utilized efficiently. We will not tolerate any compromise on the quality of the concrete lining. This project belongs to the farmers, and it must stand the test of time.”
Strengthening Punjab’s Irrigation Infrastructure
This ₹12.50 crore investment is part of a larger strategy by the Mann government to revive the state’s canal heritage. By supervising the work personally, Kultar Singh Sandhwan highlighted the proactive governance model where leaders are accountable on the ground. The completion of the Kotkapura Rajbah lining is expected to significantly boost crop yields in the region by providing a reliable and steady supply of irrigation water.
