Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan grants legal ownership to 178 families in Phidde Kalan under ‘Mera Ghar Mere Naam’ scheme.
Kultar Singh Sandhwan News: In a landmark development for rural Punjab, Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan has officially ended decades of legal uncertainty for 178 families in village Phidde Kalan. Under the state government’s flagship scheme, ‘Mera Ghar Mere Naam’, these families were granted legal ownership certificates for properties situated within the ‘Lal Lakir’ (village common land habitation).
For generations, these residents occupied their homes without any formal documentation, leaving them vulnerable and unable to leverage their property for financial growth.
Empowering te Grassroots: The ‘Mera Ghar Mere Naam’ Impact
During a special event organized to distribute the certificates, Kultar Singh Sandhwan emphasized that providing a roof over one’s head is a basic necessity, but providing the legal right to that roof is true empowerment.
The Speaker noted that for too long, families living under the Lal Lakir were treated as mere occupiers rather than owners. By hand-delivering these ownership papers, the government is ensuring that these 178 families can now hold their heads high with a sense of security and belonging.
Unlocking Economic Opportunities for Rural Families
The transition from “occupiers” to “legal owners” is not just symbolic. Kultar Singh Sandhwan highlighted several practical benefits that will now be accessible to the beneficiaries:
Financial Inclusion: Families can now use their ownership certificates as collateral to apply for bank loans, which was previously impossible.
Home Improvements: Legal title allows residents to officially apply for renovation permits and government-sponsored housing upgrades.
Social Welfare: Access to various state and central government welfare schemes is often tied to property ownership, which these families can now claim.
A Transparent and Free-of-Cost Process
Addressing the gathering at Phidde Kalan, Kultar Singh Sandhwan reiterated the Punjab Government’s commitment to a corruption-free administration. The entire process of mapping, verification, and certificate distribution under the Mera Ghar Mere Naam scheme has been kept strictly transparent and free of cost for the villagers.
“Our goal is to ensure that no eligible family is left out of this digital mapping and certification process,” stated Kultar Singh Sandhwan. He further directed the concerned officials to expedite the survey in neighboring villages to bring more families under the ambit of legal ownership.
