LEGO Cars Crossover: Lightning McQueen Joins Speed Champions in 2026
LEGO has officially unveiled its first set for 2026, and it’s unlike anything fans have seen before in the Speed Champions line. The company announced 77255 Lightning McQueen, a buildable version of Pixar’s iconic car from the Cars franchise.

The set marks the 20th anniversary of Disney and Pixar’s Cars, which originally released on July 28, 2006. Designed with 270 pieces, Lightning McQueen comes with sponsor decals, a wide smile, and the familiar red bodywork that made him a household name. The box art also features a special anniversary logo.
What makes this release stand out is its departure from Speed Champions tradition. For the first time in the main lineup, a Speed Champions set will not include a minifigure. The only previous exceptions were small polybag builds.
According to previews, the tyres and wheel arches appear to be printed elements, while much of McQueen’s detailing comes from stickers—a point LEGO fans will surely debate.
The set is already available for pre-order globally at £22.99 / $27.99 / €27.99, with an official launch on January 1, 2026. The pricing suggests another small increase for U.S. LEGO fans, following the trend seen in 2025.
For now, Lightning McQueen is the only confirmed Speed Champions set for 2026, though rumours suggest another movie-inspired car could join the line later next year.
