Through video conference, Punjab Sibin C’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) met with all of the state’s Deputy Commissioners-Cum-District Election Officers on Friday to discuss the state’s preparations for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He urged every Deputy Commissioner to meet the goal of more than 70% of the vote this time around (iss baar 70 paar).
All of the Deputy Commissioners should step up their efforts to garner more than 70% of the vote, Sibin C underlined. He stressed the importance of identifying the 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab where the voting percentage had dropped in the last elections and working to raise the turnout in such areas.
Sibin C requested the use of awareness campaigns, mobile publicity vans, and other Election Commission-provided tools in order to accomplish this purpose. He gave the go-ahead to step up efforts to boost the percentage of votes cast and encourage citizens to use their right to vote as often as possible.
Additionally, Sibin C mandated that any complaints received during election days be quickly addressed within the time limit established by the Election Commission of India. In order to decrease the amount of complaints, he directed all districts to hold frequent meetings with political party leaders to acquaint them with the guidelines and directives of the Election Commission of India.
The Chief Electoral Officer also instructed the Deputy Commissioners to verify the votes of important individuals in the district to ensure no issues arise during the election process.. He said that in order to ensure a seamless election process, assistant returning officers (AROs) from all 117 of Punjab’s assembly constituencies have received training in Chandigarh and Amritsar from February 12 to 16.
Sibin C further urged all Deputy Commissioners, who also serve as District Election Officers, to conduct the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections in a transparent and equitable way. He asked the Deputy Commissioners for their opinions and feedback after carefully going over every detail of the polls. Most Deputy Commissioners confirmed that everything needed for the election had been done, and that any shortcomings in some districts would be fixed right away.
Additional Chief Electoral Officer Abhijeet Kaplish and other top officials from the CEO’s office were present during the meeting.
