Madhya Pradesh set to allow shops and commercial establishments to stay open 24 hours

Madhya Pradesh will become the seventh state in the nation to adopt a policy of this kind, following Maharashtra, Karnataka, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Telangana.

In order to increase economic activity in Madhya Pradesh, the Mohan Yadav-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) administration is determined to permit malls, restaurants, and the IT sector, among others, to function around the clock.

Minister Prahlad Patel’s labor department has approved in principle the removal of municipal corporation-governed regions and notified industrial areas from the Madhya Pradesh Shops and Establishments Act’s 19 jurisdiction.

As a result, business owners will have more freedom to run their locations as they see fit and won’t be pressured to close. However, ensuring employee wellbeing is crucial, and business shouldn’t be conducted at the expense of employees’ welfare, according to Deputy Secretary of Labor Virendra Singh.

According to him, no worker will be permitted to work longer than an 8-hour shift or more than 48 hours in a week.

Singh continued by saying that after the plan was developed, it would be sent to the legal department for review. upon this, it would be put into effect upon publication of a notice in the state gazette.

“The ruling will be implemented in all state-designated industrial zones and municipal corporations. The top bureaucrat stated that a study will be conducted later to determine whether the directive can be implemented throughout the entire state.
