Manoj Bajpayee responds to FIR on Netflix’s ‘Ghooskhor Pandat’. Actor clarifies series is fictional, not intended to hurt any community or caste sentiments.
Manoj Bajpayee, the lead actor of Netflix India’s upcoming web series ‘Ghooskhor Pandat’, has finally addressed the controversy surrounding the show after an FIR was filed against its makers. The series, directed by Neeraj Pandey, has faced backlash for allegedly hurting community sentiments through its title and content.
Manoj Bajpayee Breaks Silence
Sharing director Neeraj Pandey’s statement on X (formerly Twitter), Manoj Bajpayee clarified that neither he nor the team intended to offend any community. “I respect the emotions and concerns people have shared, and I take them seriously. When something you are part of causes hurt to some people, it makes you pause and listen,” he said.
Manoj emphasized that his role is strictly within the context of the story: “As an actor, I come to a film through the character and the story I am playing. For me, this was about portraying a flawed individual and his journey of self-realisation. This was not meant to be a statement about any community.”
He further added that Neeraj Pandey is always mindful in his approach, noting, “In my experience of working with Neeraj, there has been consistent seriousness and care in how he approaches his films.” Manoj also highlighted that the filmmakers’ decision to temporarily remove promotional materials demonstrates the seriousness with which they are treating public concerns.
Neeraj Pandey Issues Statement
Director Neeraj Pandey also released a statement, stressing that ‘Ghooskhor Pandat’ is entirely fictional and does not target any caste, religion, or community. He acknowledged that the title hurt some viewers and confirmed that all promotional content has been withdrawn. According to him, the term ‘Pandat’ is used simply as a colloquial name for a fictional character in the series.
“The Ghooskhor Pandat story focuses on an individual’s choices and actions and does not comment on or represent any caste, religion, or community. As a filmmaker, I approach my work with responsibility—to tell stories that are thoughtful and respectful,” Pandey stated.

Legal Proceedings and FIR Details
The controversy intensified after the series’ announcement earlier this week, leading to FIRs and public backlash. The National Human Rights Commission also issued a notice to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, stating that the title promotes negative stereotypes and vilifies a recognised social group. Additionally, a writ petition has been filed in the Delhi High Court seeking a stay on the series’ release.
The FIR, registered at Hazratganj Police Station in Lucknow, alleges that the series’ title and content hurt religious and caste sentiments, specifically targeting the Brahmin community by associating the term ‘Pandat’ with corruption. Police stated that prima facie, the title appears deliberately framed to insult a particular community.
About ‘Ghooskhor Pandat’
