Sabrina Carpenter may be known for her catchy, cheeky pop hits — but beneath the playful surface of her new album Man’s Best Friend, lies a deeper emotional truth. In a forthcoming interview with Apple Music 1’s Zane Lowe, the 26-year-old singer-songwriter opened up about the heartbreak that shaped her latest project.

Released at the end of August, Man’s Best Friend quickly caught fans’ attention with its witty lyrics and feel-good production. However, Carpenter reveals the songs were born out of a tough time, following her breakup with actor Barry Keoghan earlier this year.
“I think I came out of a sad situation a lot less bitter than I intended or expected to,” she shared with Lowe, in an interview set to drop on September 4. “With a little bit more of the, like, ‘You know what? There’s two people involved, and this is part of growing up.’”
The “Feather” hitmaker added that she didn’t want to hold onto resentment from a past she once cherished. “I don’t want to be enemies with people that I loved,” she said candidly.
