Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has officially launched Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL) — a bold new division dedicated to building artificial general intelligence (AGI). Leading MSL is Alexandr Wang, former CEO of Scale AI, now appointed as Meta’s Chief AI Officer, a newly created position. He will be joined by Nat Friedman, ex-GitHub CEO, who will co-lead product and applied research. Mark Zuckerberg described Wang as “the most impressive founder of his generation.”
The MSL initiative will unify Meta’s existing AI units, including the FAIR (Fundamental AI Research) team, product teams, and foundational model researchers. It will also drive the development of next-gen large language models (LLMs).
In an internal memo, Mark Zuckerberg wrote, “As the pace of AI progress accelerates, developing superinctelligence is coming into sight… I am fully committed to doing what it takes for Meta to lead the way.”
