Mayor Shelly Oberoi: Instructs officials to ensure timely collection of garbage

In order to examine the local sanitation system and address the persistent issues, Mayor Shelly Oberoi visited the Shahdara North zone on Wednesday. The visit focused on areas such as Road No. 65, Janata Colony, Gorakhpark and Babarpur, where residents and local officials highlighted issues regarding garbage collection and drainage management.

Local council members alerted Oberoi to ongoing issues with the area’s “dhalav ghar,” or waste collection place, during her  inspection. Council members voiced their worry that the lack of routine rubbish collection was causing waste to accumulate and causing difficulty to the public. The mayor gave officials quick instructions to make sure that rubbish was collected on time and to send out more tippers if needed.

“I want to make sure there are no gaps in the system since regular rubbish collection is essential for keeping things clean. We will set up additional tippers for the work if necessary,” Oberoi stated.

The clogged and poorly maintained Drain No. 52 on Babarpur Road was one of the main issues brought up by the locals. The situation was made worse by residents’ complaints that the drain was never cleaned and that individuals were also throwing household trash into it. The mayor directed officials three days to clear the drain and mandated that progress reports be posted on WhatsApp twice a day at 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. “The cleanliness of the city is AAP’s priority, and any negligence in this matter is simply unacceptable,” Oberoi stressed. The Mayor then visited Loni Road, where residents pointed out other sanitation issues.
