Medhavi Yojana proving beneficial for Scheduled Caste students
Under the ‘Medhavi Yojana’, the Haryana government is facilitating the access of Scheduled Caste students to higher education institutions. The scheme aims to promote comprehensive development and ensure that students from all communities and categories can advance together.
Sharing more details in this regard, an official spokesperson said that the ‘Medhavi Yojana’ has been launched with the special financial incentive to increase the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) of Scheduled Caste students in higher education, in line with the National Education Policy-2020. Under this scheme, Scheduled Caste students who have passed 12th grade with more than 90 percent marks will be provided with Rs. 1,11,000.
A total of 700 meritorious students have qualified for this scheme in the academic year 2023-2024. An amount of Rs. 1,11,000 is to be sent online to their bank accounts through the Public Financial Management System (PFMS) under Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). Out of these, the bank account data of 666 students has been verified, and the payment process for 623 of them has been completed, with Rs. 6,91,53,000 sent through DBT. A budget of Rs. 8 crore has been allocated for the academic year 2023-24 for this scheme.
Notably, the highest number of beneficiaries are from Sirsa district, totaling 89. Hisar district is in second place with 83 beneficiaries, while Jind district stands third with 69 beneficiaries.
The spokesperson further shared that details of beneficiaries with incomplete PFMS data are being collected from parents to ensure the amount is promptly transferred to the students’ accounts.
