Time’s Up for Outlook Lite Users: Switch BEFORE October 6
If you’re still using Microsoft’s Outlook Lite app on your phone, it’s time to start looking for a backup plan. Microsoft announced that the app will officially be retired on October 6, 2025. After that, it’ll stop working, and users will need to switch to the main Outlook app.

Outlook Lite launched in 2022 as a simple, lightweight version of Outlook for Android. It was perfect for older phones or anyone who wanted quick email access without draining their battery. Back in 2024, Microsoft even celebrated hitting 10 million downloads for the app.
But Microsoft says it’s retiring Lite so it can focus on the main Outlook app and “invest more in a single, full-featured experience.” This follows a pattern of the company shutting down smaller services, like Lens and the Editor add-on for Chrome and Edge.
If you rely on Outlook Lite, don’t panic—but do make the switch soon. Microsoft recommends downloading the regular Outlook app from the Google Play Store to keep your emails flowing without interruption. The full Outlook app comes with extra features, cloud integration, and better support, but it might take a little getting used to if you’ve been enjoying the simplicity of Lite.
