Punjab Cabinet Minister Baljit Kaur and Fazilka MLA Narinder Pal Singh Sawna on Monday visited the flood-hit villages of Teja Ruhela and Chakk Ruhela, where they personally distributed relief supplies, including cattle feed, to support the affected families.
Minister Baljit Kaur said that due to heavy rainfall in the hills, nearly 1.7 lakh cusecs of water had been released from Harike Headworks, which is expected to enter Fazilka district via the Sutlej Creek by tomorrow, likely increasing water levels. She urged residents to immediately shift women, children, and the elderly to safer areas.
The Minister further informed that, following Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s directives, the state government has set up relief camps throughout the district. Teams from Health, Animal Husbandry, Water Supply & Sanitation, and Revenue Departments are actively working in the villages. Special provisions are being made to ensure food and healthcare support for pregnant women, nursing mothers, and children.
MLA Narinder Pal Singh Sawna assured that the Punjab Government is committed to providing full assistance to the affected people. He said that ration kits, green fodder, and cattle feed are being distributed on priority. He also mentioned that a District Flood Control Room has been made operational and can be reached at 01638-262153 for emergency help.
Earlier, Dr. Baljit Kaur held a review meeting with district officials at the District Administrative Complex to monitor the relief operations and instructed them to remain on high alert and work round-the-clock.
Among those present were Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Dr. Mandeep Kaur, SDM Virpal Kaur, DSP Avinash Chander, and Tehsildar Jaspreet Singh.
