Punjab Cabinet Minister Baljit Kaur on Sunday visited the flood-affected villages near Chand Bhan Drain, including Noor Shah in Fazilka district, where she personally distributed relief material and interacted with victims.
Minister Baljit Kaur was joined by Fazilka MLA Narinderpal Singh Sawna and former Abohar MLA Arun Narang. While meeting the affected families, Dr. Kaur assured them that under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s leadership, the Punjab Government is fully committed to providing assistance, with no shortage of funds for relief measures. She highlighted that in Fazilka constituency alone, over ₹70 lakh worth of relief material has been distributed, including 4,558 ration kits, 2,017 cattle feed bags, sanitary pads for women, and mosquito nets.
The Minister further said that Old Age Homes have been opened for senior citizens hit by floods, while relief camps are offering full facilities to the displaced. She stressed that special care is being taken to move differently-abled persons to safe places. Once waters recede, girdawari (crop damage assessment) will be conducted to ensure farmers receive due compensation.
Earlier in the day, Dr. Kaur reviewed ongoing relief operations with Deputy Commissioner Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu and other officials at the District Administrative Complex. She also met volunteers, praising their dedicated efforts, and underlined the importance of community support during such testing times. At village Noor Shah, Dr. Kaur and MLA Narinderpal Singh Sawna also participated in a community langar with the residents at the flood protection site.
