Minister Baljit Kaur : Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government has distributed ₹3,368.89 crore in pensions to 22.68 lakh elderly beneficiaries by December 2024.
Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Baljit Kaur further elaborated that the government is dedicated to the welfare of all sections of society. She mentioned that the state has a total of 34 lakh beneficiaries, including the elderly, persons with disabilities, widows, destitute women, and dependent children.
Minister Baljit Kaur revealed that ₹3,368.89 crore has been given to 22.68 lakh elderly beneficiaries in pensions as of December 2024. Additionally, the government has allocated ₹5,924.50 crore for various pension schemes, with ₹4,000 crore earmarked for old age pensions in the current financial year.
The Cabinet Minister clarified that individuals aged 65 and above, as well as women aged 58 and above, with an annual income not exceeding ₹60,000, are eligible for the pension scheme. She also mentioned that financial assistance is directly transferred to the beneficiaries’ bank accounts.
Minister Baljit Kaur emphasized the government’s ongoing efforts for the welfare of the elderly, including conducting health surveys related to senior citizens across the state.
