In a significant move to uphold the dignity and well-being of senior citizens, the Punjab Government has disbursed ₹1,347 crore under the Old Age Pension Scheme up to June 2025, announced Minister Baljit Kaur, Minister of Social Security, Women and Child Development.
Providing further insights, Minister Baljit Kaur shared that nearly 22.75 lakh elderly beneficiaries have received assistance through the scheme till June 2025. She added that the state has allocated ₹4,100 crore for the scheme in the current fiscal year.
Highlighting the government’s commitment, Minister Baljit Kaur said the Mann-led administration is dedicated to supporting the elderly with the guiding principle, “Our Elders, Our Pride.” She emphasized that ensuring timely pension payments remains a top priority.
Minister Baljit Kaur directed department officials to make sure pensions are deposited promptly, cautioning that any delays or lapses would be taken seriously. She stressed that senior citizens are a valuable part of society and deserve respect and timely support.
She also warned that any official, irrespective of their rank or connections, found neglecting their responsibilities under this scheme would face strict disciplinary action.
