Punjab PWD Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO on Wednesday hailed the Punjab Budget 2025, presented by Finance Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema, as a pro-people and pro-development budget. He stated that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s government has designed the budget to drive Punjab towards rapid growth, ensuring benefits for all sections of society.
Harbhajan Singh ETO emphasized that the budget covers all key sectors, with a particular focus on health, education, agriculture, industry, and job creation. It also includes provisions for social welfare schemes aimed at serving the larger public interest. The Punjab government, under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s leadership, has made significant advancements in the power sector, notably improving the performance of Powercom, which has now secured the 7th rank among power companies nationwide. He further highlighted that technical and commercial losses have been reduced from 11.26% to 10.26%.
The Minister credited the government’s dedicated efforts in enhancing Powercom’s efficiency, leading to improved distribution and overall sectoral growth, as well as achieving a revenue gap profit of 0.25 paise per unit. He also appreciated the government’s decision to allocate ₹855 crore for the construction and upgrading of 2,718 km of roads and link routes, which will enhance road connectivity, facilitate smoother traffic flow, and benefit commuters. Additionally, he praised the allocation of ₹151 crore for new bridges and ₹190 crore for major infrastructure upgrades, including the modernization of 200 km of roads.
