Minister Harjot Singh : To further enhance the effectiveness of state government schools and ensure world-class education standards, Punjab School Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, on Monday, instructed all District Education Officers (DEOs – Elementary & Secondary) to spend the first two hours of their day, from 9 AM to 11 AM, in the field. Additionally, he directed them to develop data-driven, district-specific action plans with measurable outcomes. The performance of all DEOs will be reviewed monthly.
These directives were issued during a full-day review meeting with DEOs held at MGSIPA. The Education Minister also emphasized the on-ground execution of state government initiatives, including the Schools of Eminence (SOEs), enrolment drives, and student coaching programs.
Highlighting the government’s commitment to the education sector, which has been given top priority under Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann’s leadership,Minister Harjot Singh Bains reiterated that education is the foundation of Punjab’s future. The state is dedicated to transforming its education system.
He urged DEOs to accelerate the development of Schools of Eminence (SOEs) by prioritizing infrastructure completion, increasing student enrolment, filling vacant staff positions, and strengthening coaching programs for competitive exams like JEE, with regular performance assessments and necessary interventions.
Further, he instructed officials to speed up the implementation of Mission Samrath, setting clear goals to enhance foundational literacy and numeracy among students in Grades 3-8. He stressed the need to ensure minimum infrastructure standards in all schools, with a special focus on functional and separate toilets for boys and girls, safe drinking water, dual desks, and boundary walls.
The Education Minister also directed officials to launch an extensive enrolment campaign to boost admissions at Primary, Upper Primary, Secondary, and Senior Secondary levels through targeted outreach initiatives. He assured that all pending infrastructure projects under NABARD and Samagra Shiksha would be completed within the set timelines, with immediate resolution of any obstacles.
Reaffirming that education remains the government’s foremost priority, Minister Harjot Singh Bains assured that all necessary resources would be allocated to meet the set goals for the sector.
The meeting was attended by Secretary of School Education Ms. Anindita Mitra, Director General of School Education Mr. Vinay Bublani, Special Secretary Mr. Rajesh Dhiman, and other senior department officials.
