Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema and Information & Public Relations Minister S. Harjot Singh Bains inaugurated a state-of-the-art Press Lounge on Friday, designed to provide journalists with a modern and well-equipped workspace. Situated on the 2nd floor of the Punjab Civil Secretariat in Chandigarh, the facility has been renovated after two decades through the dedicated efforts of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha Press Gallery Committee.
The event was attended by OSD (Media) to the Chief Minister, Punjab, Mr. Adil Azmi; Secretary IPR Mr. Malwinder Singh Jaggi; Director IPR Mr. Vimal Setia; Additional Director IPR (Admin) Mr. Sundeep Singh Garha; Joint Director (Press) Mr. Harjit Singh Grewal; Punjab Vidhan Sabha Press Gallery Committee President Mr. Ashwani Chawla; Vice President Mr. Amit Panday; Secretary Deepak Sharma, along with other senior journalists.
Equipped with cutting-edge technology and essential amenities, the newly renovated Press Lounge reflects the Punjab Government’s commitment to strengthening an independent and vibrant media ecosystem. The facility offers high-speed internet, desktops, printers, and comfortable seating arrangements, ensuring that journalists have the necessary resources to efficiently fulfill their role in public information dissemination.
Reaffirming the Punjab Government’s commitment, under the leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, to the welfare of journalists and the promotion of journalism, S. Harjot Singh Bains emphasized the crucial role of a free and independent press in a democratic society.
The Press Lounge is set to become a key hub for journalists covering government departments, state affairs, and official events. It is expected to improve access to information, facilitate better communication, and create a collaborative environment for media professionals.
