In a strong move to honour India’s freedom struggle, Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Tuesday instructed the Department of Freedom Fighters to swiftly address all genuine demands of the ‘Freedom Fighters, Successors Organisation’. He said the nation owes a deep debt to the sacrifices made during the independence movement and reaffirmed the state’s steadfast resolve to fulfil the aspirations of freedom heroes while preserving the dignity of their descendants.
During an extensive meeting with representatives of the organisation, Minister Harpal Cheema reviewed the issues raised and, recognising their historical and emotional importance, directed Special Chief Secretary (Freedom Fighters) Raji P. Shrivastava to fast-track their resolution with transparency and efficiency.
“The Punjab Government stands firmly beside our freedom fighters and their successors, not just in sentiment but through concrete action,”Minister Harpal Cheema said, adding that their courage and conviction laid the foundation of the nation, and it is a solemn duty to honour their legacy with justice and respect.
Reiterating the AAP-led state government’s commitment,Minister Harpal Cheema assured that every promise made to freedom fighters and their families will be upheld, and every effort will be made to ensure they receive their rightful place in Punjab’s development journey.
The meeting ended with assurances of continued dialogue and accountability, setting the stage for joint efforts to resolve issues and create lasting benefits for those who carry forward the legacy of India’s independence movement. Representing the organisation were State President Chatin Singh Sekhon Mansa, General Secretary Ravinder Singh Nangla Bathinda, and Senior Vice President Major Singh Barnala, who presented their demands and concerns.
