Minister Mahipal Dhanda : Significant revisions implemented in the school syllabus in alignment with the National Education Policy.
Haryana’s Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda , announced that the state has completed all necessary preparations for implementing the National Education Policy (NEP). Haryana has taken significant steps to extend the NEP to schools, aiming to transform the education system and position India as a global leader.
During a meeting at Haryana Bhawan in New Delhi with senior officials from the Education Department,Minister Mahipal Dhanda discussed various aspects of NEP implementation. Speaking to the media afterward, he highlighted that Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Sh. Nayab Singh Saini, and former Chief Minister Sh. Manohar Lal envision Haryana’s youth excelling beyond Hindi and English by learning international languages. The department is considering the inclusion of foreign language education in schools.
Minister Mahipal Dhanda emphasized Haryana’s historical strengths in science, culture, and economy, noting that while previous administrations may have neglected the education system, the current government is prioritizing educational reforms. He dismissed criticism from opponents, asserting that the NEP is ushering in a transformative era in education. Efforts are underway to increase student enrollment, address teacher shortages, and enhance the overall learning environment. The minister assured that today’s discussions focused on resolving any challenges, with Haryana committed to fully implementing the NEP within a year.
A key aspect of the NEP is the introduction of updated textbooks aligned with the new curriculum. NEP-compliant books have already been introduced for Classes 1 to 3, and from the upcoming academic session, Class 6 books will also follow the new guidelines. Additionally, teaching methodologies will be revised under the policy, with teachers undergoing training to adapt to these changes. The Education Department is also monitoring student progress under the Nipun program.
During the meeting, officials reviewed progress on NEP-2020 in school education, dividing tasks into six groups for detailed assessment. The status of each task was analyzed, and further implementation steps were outlined. In higher education, discussions focused on executing 16 key initiatives under NEP. The minister also commended Haryana’s achievements in school education and underscored the importance of the three-language formula. Enhancing teacher quality remained a central theme of the discussions.
The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary of the Education Department, Sh. Vineet Garg, along with key officials including Director General of Technical Education Sh. Prabhjot Singh, Director of Higher Education Sh. Rahul Hooda, Director of Secondary Education Sh. Jitender Kumar, and representatives from Gurugram University, SCERT, and the District Education Office, among others.
