Punjab Revenue, Rehabilitation and Disaster Management Minister Mundian announced today that under the leadership of CM Bhagwant Mann,
Minister Mundian : the state government has directed a special girdawari to assess crop damage and other losses caused by rising river waters, so that affected families can be compensated.
Visiting the flood-hit villages of Baupur Jadeed and Sangra in Sultanpur Lodhi,Minister Mundian met with families and confirmed that the compensation process for crop losses has already begun. He said Deputy Commissioners have been instructed to complete the special girdawari quickly once the water recedes and submit their reports promptly for timely relief.
Mundian added that relief efforts in Kapurthala, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, and Fazilka are being supervised by a ministerial committee, with Cabinet ministers personally visiting districts to oversee operations and stand by affected people. He informed that ₹2 crore has been released for relief measures in Kapurthala, ensuring uninterrupted supply of rations, drinking water, medicines, and livestock care.
Highlighting flood prevention, the Minister said that a statewide campaign will soon be launched to further strengthen Dhussi and advance bundhs, though he clarified that Dhussi bundhs are currently safe.
Traveling by boat to reach marooned residents, Mundian distributed dry rations, medicines, and clean drinking water, and directed deployment of additional SDRF teams to speed up rescue and relief operations. He also ordered regular fogging in affected areas, health checkups by medical teams, and awareness drives on preventing skin and water-borne diseases. Special attention, he said, must be given to livestock health, with veterinary doctors visiting villages to provide care.
Expressing solidarity with flood-affected families, Mundian praised their resilience and assured that the Mann Government stands firmly with them and will extend every possible support.
Earlier in the day, the Minister reviewed dam water release and river flow conditions during a meeting with administrative officers.
Among those present were Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal, Kapurthala Municipal Improvement Trust Chairman and AAP constituency in-charge Sajjan Singh Cheema, SSP Gaurav Toora, and other officials.
