Ministry of Labour :Capacity Building for Ensuring Welfare of Unorganized Labour

Ministry of Labour  working towards ensuring welfare of unorganized labour through Capacity Building Programme on “Social Security Schemes, Labour Codes

Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment, Ms. Sumita Dawra, inaugurated  a two-day Capacity Building Programme on “Social Security Schemes, Labour Codes, and the BOCW-MIS Portal” from 21st to 22nd October 2024 at the VV Giri National Labour Institute (VVGNLI) in Noida. The programme is being attended by 30 Welfare Commissioners, Deputy Welfare Commissioners, Assistant Welfare Commissioners, and Welfare Administrators from various regions of the country. The event is part of a broader initiative by the Ministry to strengthen the understanding and skills of these officers who play a pivotal role in ensuring the welfare of unorganized workers across sectors.

In her address, Secretary highlighted the critical role that these officers have in safeguarding the interests of workers in unorganized, informal sector. Secretary underscored the significance of effective implementation of welfare schemes using innovative strategies and by building synergies with State, district and local administration. She also emphasized the importance of administering labour laws with an approach that facilitates compliance, ensuring an investment friendly ecosystem for employment generation alongwith labour welfare.

By the end of the two-day programme, participants are expected to have gained a better understanding of welfare provisions, including through improved data handling, which will lead to more efficient monitoring of implementation of these schemes across the country.
