In a candid conversation on YouTube with journalist Shubhankar Mishra, Mohit Suri revealed that he had been working on the script for Aashiqui 3 with the intent to direct it himself. However, delays in finalizing the story, coupled with the underwhelming performance of his earlier films Malang (2020) and Ek Villain Returns (2022), led the studio to move ahead with another director. Anurag Basu was later brought on board to helm the project.
Mohit Suri admitted that during this period, he was under immense pressure and often second-guessed his instincts. “I was listening too much to others instead of trusting my own vision,” he shared, recalling how even family members began to lose faith in his ability to deliver after successive flops.
