Chief Minister Dr. Yadav Inaugurates the 100th Tansen Music Festival with Grandeur

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that the vibrant cultural heritage of Sangeetdhani Gwalior holds a unique identity across the nation. He emphasized that the city’s tradition of promoting music and the arts, along with its reverence for artists, is truly exceptional. Legendary musicians like Tansen and Baiju Bawra, who were born on this land, are revered as deities by contemporary music practitioners.Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the 100th Tansen Music Festival in Gwalior, Dr. Yadav expressed his delight in participating in this centenary celebration honoring Sangeet Shiromani Tansen. He noted that the event reflects the enduring legacy of Gwalior’s rich musical tradition and its contribution to Indian culture.

On Sunday evening ,Chief Minister Dr. Yadav inaugurated the prestigious Tansen Samaroh, one of the most renowned festivals in the world of classical music, on a grand stage themed after the historic Maheshwar Fort in the Tansen Samadhi complex. The inauguration ceremony, marked by the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, was graced by Union Communications and North Eastern Region Development Minister Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia, Assembly Speaker Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, and other public representatives.Prior to the event, Chief Minister Dr. Yadav, along with the esteemed guests, visited the Samadhi of Sur Samrat Tansen and paid heartfelt homage to the legendary musician.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav remarked that the centenary celebration of the Tansen Samaroh has brought together not only the finest music practitioners from India but also talented artists from four other countries, all gathered to pay tribute to Sur Samrat Tansen. He extended heartfelt congratulations on behalf of the Madhya Pradesh government to all the artists, both domestic and international, for their participation.Dr. Yadav described Gwalior as a city rich in music and art, expressing his privilege at attending the festival twice in honor of the legendary musician Tansen. He recalled that during his previous visit, a Guinness World Record was set with a grand Taal Darbar at Gwalior Fort. This year, another world record was achieved with a remarkable collective performance by musicians playing various instruments, adding yet another feather to the event’s cap.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Central and State Governments are taking full care of the respect of artists. He said that Prime Minister Shri Modi reached to pay tribute to Bharat Ratna Swar Kokila Lata Mangeshkar on her demise. The State Government is taking full care of the inspiring tradition of respecting artists that he has established.

Music has the ability to harmonize with nature

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that the ragas of classical music are deeply intertwined with nature and possess the power to establish a universal connection with all living beings. He cited the example of Lord Krishna, whose flute playing drew the entire cow herd to him, demonstrating the profound bond between music and life. Similarly, Sur Samrat Tansen showcased the harmony between music and nature by invoking rain through Raga Malhar, proving the transformative and synchronizing power of ragas with the natural world.

Every effort will be made to make Gwalior a music hub – Union Minister Shri Scindia

Union Minister Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia described this year as a remarkable one for Gwalior in the field of music, marking the centenary of the Tansen Festival, which was first inaugurated in 1924 during the Scindia reign. He expressed that this year will be etched in golden letters in Gwalior’s history. Shri Scindia highlighted Gwalior’s reputation as a city of music and emphasized that the collective efforts, with the support of Chief Minister Dr. Yadav, will help establish Gwalior as a music hub. He also urged Chief Minister Dr. Yadav to make the Chanderi Music Festival, in honor of Baiju Bawra, as grand as the Tansen Festival.

Efforts being made for cultural development in the state are commendable – Assembly Speaker Shri Tomar

Assembly Speaker Shri Narendra Singh Tomar expressed his delight at the cultural development being actively promoted by the state government across Madhya Pradesh. He cited the organization of the Taal Darbar last year and the grand combined performance of a large classical band this year, both as part of the Tansen Festival in Gwalior, as shining examples of these efforts. These events have earned Guinness World Records, further elevating Gwalior’s global recognition in the field of music. Shri Tomar conveyed his gratitude to the Chief Minister and the Culture Department on behalf of the people of Gwalior for these achievements. He also acknowledged the historical legacy of supporting music and arts in Gwalior, which began during the reign of Maharaja Mansingh Tomar and continued with full vigor under Mahadji Scindia and the Scindia dynasty. Shri Tomar noted that the current state government is diligently working to preserve and promote this rich heritage of music and arts, ensuring its legacy endure for generations to come.

Release of postage stamp on the occasion of the 100th Tansen Festival

A postage stamp of five rupees has been issued by the Postal Department on the occasion of the centenary year of the Tansen Festival. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav and other guests released this postage stamp in the inaugural program of the Tansen Festival.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav and other guests also released a book focusing on 100 years of Tansen Festival and a souvenir prepared on this year’s event.

Concluding the program, Minister of State for Culture and Tourism (Independent Charge), Shri Dharmendra Singh Lodhi, extended his heartfelt gratitude to all attendees and participants.
