MP Governor : “Unit Citation of the Governor” awarded to 97 Field Regiment of the Army
MP Governor Shri Mangubhai Patel awarded Unit Citation to Army’s 97 Field Regiment for its heroic efforts for relief and rescue in flood-affected areas of Madhya Pradesh. Governor Shri Patel appreciated the contribution of 97 Field Regiment in establishing the Army’s commitment to the motto of “Seva Paramo Dharma” in a dignified ceremony held at Raj Bhavan. Unit Commanding Officer Colonel Devmalya Mukherjee and Subedar Major Devendra Kumar were awarded citations.
Governor Shri Mangubhai Patel has awarded the “Governor’s Unit Citation” to the unit of 97 Field Regiment for its outstanding performance in flood relief and rescue operations in Datia and Gwalior districts. It is noteworthy that 97 Field Regiment had excelled in flood relief operations in Datia and Gwalior districts of the state. The regiment carried out daring night operations crossing the strong currents of the river. Rescue operations were conducted to save civilians trapped in submerged houses in Kali Sindh, Parvati and Naun rivers. During this period, more than 70 civilians were rescued safely. 100 civilians including women, children and elderly were relocated. During a period of three days, the rescue team succeeded in rescuing villagers of Nunhari, Indergarh and Pawaya villages through efficient allocation of resources and tireless work. Similarly, despite the breach in the lake and the rising waters, the residents of Aman Colony of Datia, which was in danger, were evacuated to safer places. The soldiers of the Army’s 97 Field Regiment Unit not only saved lives but also brought a ray of hope among the people devastated by the disaster. The success of the unit has set a powerful example of the important role of the Army in disaster relief operations.
