Mukesh Khanna reacts to Ranveer Singh’s rumored casting in the Shaktimaan movie, revealing behind-the-scenes conflicts, creative control issues, and the film’s delay.
Veteran actor Mukesh Khanna has finally opened up about the much-awaited Shaktimaan movie and the ongoing controversy surrounding its casting. The film, which has been delayed due to creative disagreements and casting choices, has faced fresh speculation as Ranveer Singh’s name continues to surface as the frontrunner for the lead role.
Mukesh Khanna Speaks on Shaktimaan Movie Delay
In an exclusive interview with Galatta India, Shaktimaan creator and original actor Mukesh Khanna revealed why the big-screen adaptation of India’s iconic superhero is facing roadblocks. According to Khanna, while Sony Pictures International holds the rights to produce the film for seven years, he has ensured that the essence and moral values of the character remain untouched.“The IPR is still mine. But, we have given them rights for seven years to make a film,” said Khanna. “Maine likhva diya hai ki film mein Shaktimaan ki aatma change nahi hogi (I have ensured that Shaktimaan’s soul won’t be altered). They agreed not to change Shaktimaan’s values.”

Casting Conflict: Ranveer Singh’s Involvement
One of the biggest reasons for the delay appears to be disagreements over casting. Reports have been circulating that Bollywood superstar Ranveer Singh is being considered for the titular role in the upcoming Shaktimaan film. Addressing these rumors, Khanna confirmed meeting Ranveer and acknowledged the actor’s enthusiasm. “Ranveer came to my office and spent three hours trying to convince me. He is a good actor and a good person,” Khanna admitted. “But I still believe he doesn’t fit the role of Shaktimaan. I’m rigid on that point.”

Khanna also expressed frustration over the lack of control he has in casting decisions. Despite having rights over the character’s identity, he revealed that final casting decisions rest with the production team, which has been a major sticking point. “They will consult me, but the final call is theirs. If Shaktimaan ends up dancing in a disco and I object, they can still go ahead. So what’s the point of asking me?” said Khanna.
Emphasizing his commitment to protecting the character’s legacy, Khanna warned, “If they move ahead without my approval, I will take legal action. It’s a battle now. I’ll fight till I can.”
The Legacy of Shaktimaan
Shaktimaan originally aired on Doordarshan from 1997 to 2005 and is widely considered India’s first iconic superhero series. Mukesh Khanna not only portrayed the lead role of Pandit Gangadhar and Shaktimaan, but also conceptualized the show’s moral and spiritual themes, which resonated with millions of viewers.
However, due to a past oversight, Khanna disclosed that he no longer has the rights to the show’s original theme song and music, making it harder for him to release them independently. “Main Shaktimaan ke gaane aur music release nahi kar sakta, because I sold them to someone by mistake,” he admitted.
