Narayana Murthy’s Humble Journey from Mumbai to Bengaluru Inspires Millions
Infosys co-founder N.R. Narayana Murthy, often praised for his humility despite his billionaire status, is once again in the spotlight — not for a business decision, but for his down-to-earth lifestyle.

In a now-viral post on X (formerly Twitter), BJP MP Tejasvi Surya shared his recent in-flight experience with the 78-year-old tech pioneer. The two were flying together from Mumbai to Bengaluru on a low-cost domestic airline — and what stood out to Surya, and now the internet, was Murthy’s simple travel behavior.
According to Surya, Murthy chose to fly in economy class, carried his own luggage, and used the regular passenger facilities, skipping the VIP lounge entirely. For someone with a net worth estimated at $5 billion, the gesture struck a chord with many.
“Had an inspiring conversation with the legendary NRN today on the way back to Bengaluru from Mumbai… He created wealth for literally lakhs of middle-class families through Infosys,” Surya wrote.
The two-hour journey turned into what Surya described as a “masterclass” covering a wide range of topics including artificial intelligence, Indian manufacturing, urban development, youth upskilling, ethics, and leadership.
Surya humorously added that he promised Murthy to strive toward his famously high 70-hour work week recommendation, to which Murthy laughed and replied:
“The only person I know who probably works 100 hours a week is Prime Minister Modi!”
The post drew attention from across social media, with many praising Murthy for staying true to his values and leading by example. ANI Editor Smita Prakash also reacted, noting how remarkable it was to see someone of his stature choose a commercial flight over a private jet.
