Naseeruddin Shah’s Deleted Post —
In the now-deleted Facebook post, Naseeruddin Shah had written:
“I STAND FIRMLY WITH DILJIT. The dirty tricks deptt of Jumla Party has been awaiting a chance to attack him. They think they’ve got it at last. He was not responsible for the casting of the film, the director was. But no one knows who he is whereas Diljit is known the world over, and he agreed to the cast because his mind is not poisoned.”
The post, seen by many as a direct critique of right-wing political groups, sparked a wave of backlash online, leading Naseeruddin Shah to eventually remove it from his account.
In response, filmmaker Ashoke Pandit, president of the Indian Film & Television Directors’ Association (IFTDA), condemned Shah’s remarks. “It’s a reflection of his frustration. Shah is known for making such statements that stir unnecessary controversy,” Pandit said in a media interaction.
The controversy surrounding Sardaar Ji 3 has reignited debates over cross-border collaborations in Indian cinema and the fine line between political commentary and artistic freedom.
