Following a media report on purported illegal transplant surgeries in Rajasthan and Haryana, the National Human Rights Commission has requested an investigation into an organ trafficking ring operating in these two states.

A Bangladeshi national who had undergone kidney removal surgery at a hospital in Jaipur under “suspicious” financial arrangements was discovered during a raid by the Haryana Health Department at a hotel in Gurugram Sector-39, according to the report.

The receiver and the Bangladeshi national, who are thought to have no “blood relation,” agreed to participate in the transplant surgery in exchange for a payment of Rs 4 lakh in Bangladeshi currency.

VIVEK DHAKAR: INVESTIGATE FORMER CONGRESS MLA VIVEK DHAKAR’S DEATH

The Transplantation of Human Organs Act, 1994, as modified in 2011, is violated if these charges are accurate, according to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), which took suo motu cognizance of the report.

The Directors-General of Police in both Rajasthan and Haryana, as well as their Chief Secretaries, have received notifications from the NHRC asking a thorough report in four weeks.

Any arrests made in relation to the organ trafficking case should be included in the report, along with the current state of police investigations.

In order to ensure prompt legal action against individuals involved in the criminal trafficking in human organs, it has also sought information on the measures being implemented or planned in this regard.
