The Avengers Won’t Assemble Just Yet — Doomsday and Secret Wars Delayed to 2026 & 2027
Originally set to debut on May 1, 2026, Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars have both been pushed to later dates. Avengers: Doomsday will now hit theaters on December 18, 2026, marking a delay of over seven months. Avengers: Secret Wars has been rescheduled from May 7, 2027, to December 17, 2027.
Disney confirmed the changes on Thursday afternoon, also removing several unnamed Marvel projects from its release lineup. A previously scheduled Untitled Marvel film dated for February 13, 2026, has been removed entirely. Meanwhile, two other dates — November 6, 2026, and November 5, 2027 — have now been reassigned to Untitled Disney releases.
Both Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars are major undertakings for Marvel Studios and are expected to be massive crossover events. Early buzz hints at the return of Robert Downey Jr., not as Iron Man, but in the iconic role of Doctor Doom. The ensemble casts are also expected to feature characters from across the Marvel multiverse, including teams such as the Thunderbolts, the Fantastic Four, and X-Men veterans like Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen.
Production on Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars is reportedly ramping up. Downey recently posted a behind-the-scenes photo with co-stars as they attended a screening of Thunderbolts in a show of support for their Marvel colleagues.
As Marvel retools its schedule, anticipation continues to build for what promises to be a monumental next phase in the MCU — with Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars leading the charge.
