Bhupinder Hooda son competing for the fifth time
Deepender Hooda, a Rajya Sabha MP and the son of former chief minister Bhupinder Hooda, is contesting for the record fifth time from the Rohtak parliamentary constituency.
On Thursday night, Deepender was formally named as the Congress nominee from this location. He has, nevertheless, already begun conducting a polling campaign within the constituency.
In the five Lok Sabha elections, Bhupinder Hooda emerged victorious four times from Rohtak (1991, 1996, 1998, and 2004). However, in the 1999 Lok Sabha elections, Hooda was defeated by greenhorn Capt Inder Singh because of the Kargil conflict effect.
Bhupinder Hooda ran for the Lok Sabha seat in 2019 from Sonepat in addition to Rohtak, however he was unsuccessful.
After his father resigned as the Rohtak MP in 2005 in response to being promoted to Chief Minister, Deepender entered politics through a by-election. At the age of 27, Deepender won this poll, making him the youngest member of the 14th Lok Sabha.
He repeated as winner in 2009, this time with a record margin of 4,45,736 votes. He completed a hat-trick by winning the Lok Sabha elections in 2014, but BJP candidate Dr. Arvind Sharma narrowly defeated him in the 2019 polls, winning by 7,503 votes. As the Congress candidate, Deepender would be running for the Lok Sabha in his fifth consecutive election from Rohtak.
Earlier, Bhupinder’s father Ch Ranbir Singh too served as MP twice from Rohtak in the first two Lok Sabha elections held in 1952 and 1957.
Speaking to reporters today, Deepender claimed that the public was aware of his 19-year-old political career and approach to work.
When evaluating a political candidate, the public considers their job and behavior. People have observed both my behavior and my job. The Rohtak people will bestow their blessings based on my actions and demeanor. He continued, “I won’t let their blessings go to waste.
Following Deepender’s announcement of his candidacy, Rohtak will likely see a rematch of the last Lok Sabha election between the same two candidates. While the JJP and the INLD have not yet announced their candidates, the BJP has put out Dr. Arvind Sharma once more.
