The workshop was organized under NITI Aayog’s State Support Mission by the Green Transition and Climate Change division, with a focus on two sectors: End of Life Vehicles (ELV) and End of Life Tyres (ELT). It was co-hosted by the Material Recycling Association of India (MRAI) and attended by various industry stakeholders, including manufacturers, recyclers, government officials, and representatives from state governments. Shri Naresh Pal Gangwar, Additional Secretary of MoEFCC, inaugurated the event, emphasizing the role of Circular Economy in helping India achieve its Viksit Bharat@2047 goal.
The ELV session addressed issues within the formal vehicle scrapping ecosystem, such as low consumer awareness, operational and infrastructural challenges, and the integration of carbon credits. The session ended with an interactive Q&A between the panelists and state representatives.
Dr. P Krishnaiah, Chairman of APPCB, Andhra Pradesh, chaired the End of Life Tyres session. This session discussed various aspects of tyre recycling, including the current policy landscape, technological advancements, and the challenges of down cycling. The session concluded with remarks from Smt. Sreekala, Chairperson of the Kerala Pollution Control Board.
The workshop saw participation from around 50 representatives from the Government of India and various state governments, along with over 100 participants from the manufacturing and recycling industries. The event concluded with a call for collaboration among all stakeholders to address sectoral issues through innovation, policy analysis, and technological solutions.
