NITI Aayog organized a high-level conclave, Viksit Bharat @ 2047: Strengthening Economy, National Security, Global Alliances, and Legal Frameworks, on February 6, 2025, at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan, New Delhi. The event brought together key policymakers, including NITI Aayog’s Vice Chairman, Members, and CEO, along with keynote addresses by the Chief Economic Advisor to the Government of India and the Secretary of the Ministry of Defence. The conclave featured expert discussions and deliberations on India’s long-term development roadmap for the next two decades.
A major highlight was a panel discussion on Economic Growth and Global Competitiveness by 2047, where experts from policy, academia, and industry analyzed India’s path to becoming a global economic leader. Key discussions centered on regulatory reforms, innovation, infrastructure development, and India’s role in global trade. Panelists emphasized the necessity of private sector investment in research and development, fiscal discipline, and deeper integration into global supply chains. Other crucial topics included sovereign credit ratings, energy security, and access to essential raw materials. Additionally, investments in education, skill development, and infrastructure were identified as vital for harnessing India’s demographic advantage. The session underscored the need for bold reforms, sustainable energy solutions, and a strategic approach to international trade to achieve the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.
Another key session, Strategic Partnerships for Development, explored India’s diplomatic strategies for strengthening alliances with both the Global South and North. Experts highlighted India’s economic resilience, its ability to navigate geopolitical trade challenges, and its leadership in renewable energy. Discussions covered international cooperation in critical mineral resources, trade liberalization, tariff reductions, and technological collaborations. The session also emphasized the significance of digital public infrastructure in fostering multilateral and bilateral partnerships, while legal reforms were recognized as crucial for attracting foreign investment and enhancing the ease of doing business.
The session on Supply Chain Resilience and National Defence examined strategies for mitigating supply chain disruptions and the role of public-private partnerships in national security. Experts discussed the importance of a strong logistics network for both civilian and military operations. A key takeaway was the contrast between the Just in Time model used in civilian supply chains and the Just in Case approach required for military logistics. The session also focused on improving procurement procedures, strengthening public-private collaborations, and optimizing organizational structures for efficient defence supply chains. Cybersecurity emerged as a crucial factor in safeguarding supply chain integrity and operational efficiency.
The conclave provided deep insights into India’s economic trajectory, strategic alliances, and national security priorities. The discussions reinforced India’s commitment to sustainable, inclusive growth, paving the way for realizing the Prime Minister’s vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047.
